From RGB to RGB++#
The RGB protocol is built on the technical foundation of client-side validation and one-time sealed strips. During the transaction process, asset history, transaction data, and confirmation information are packaged and exchanged off-chain, and the transaction commitment is finally pushed onto the chain to generate an unspent transaction output (UTXO) for future use. These UTXOs can only be used once to ensure the ownership of RGB assets.
Although RGB greatly enhances privacy, security, and scalability of Bitcoin by moving computational steps off-chain, innovation in the blockchain field has never stopped. The enhanced protocol RGB++ goes further on the solid foundation of RGB and brings new breakthroughs.

From UTXO to Cell#
The UTXO model records the amount of cryptocurrency in each transaction output. Each time an asset is transferred, the corresponding UTXO is spent and new UTXOs are generated to indicate the new state of the asset. Although this model is effective, it has limitations in scalability and flexibility.
The Cell model addresses these limitations. Through innovative design, the new Cell model includes more storage areas, providing more powerful functionality. UTXOs in RGB can be mapped to Cells in RGB++ through the lockscript inside the Cell. Unlike UTXOs, Cell units can not only store asset quantities but also store data in any format in their typescript. This allows complex smart contracts to be embedded in Cells and executed by the powerful CKB-VM.
This flexibility enables more complex smart contracts and decentralized applications, further expanding the boundaries of blockchain technology.
